Balahna — a Russian town in Nizhegorodsky region, situated on the right bank of the river Volga. Balahna was founded in 1474 and named Sol-na-Gorodtse. In the middle ages it was an important center of salt-extractive industry and in the XVIII—XIXth centuries Balahna was known for its shipbuilding. In 1925 there appeared a pulp-and-paper factory. Nowadays Balahna is considered to be a town of great cultural value. It is famous for its architecture and historical places.
