Hystory

In 1895 government discussed the building of Perm-Kotlass railway. The place of the station Perm-Zaimki (the future Perm II) was set – the fifth km from the station Perm-Ural railway (Perm I). The engineer I. N. Bikhovets was directed the building of Perm-Kotlass railway. The train traffic started on the 1st of February in 1899 (freight trains – on the 15th of June in 1899 and passengers trains – on the 1st of January in 1900). In 1910 the new station Perm-Zaimki was renamed into Perm II ant the station Perm into Perm I.

About the station

Perm II (Perm the second) is the central railway station in Perm. It was opened in 1909. It is a subsidiary of the Sverdlovsk Railway (earlier – Perm Railway of L.M. Kaganovich). The station Perm II is the most important transport node located on the main direction of Trans-Siberian Railway.

A few words about the bulding

The station consists of platforms, classification yard and a two-storeyed building. Its floor and walls are atefaced with marble of a dark milky grey colour. On the ground floor there are administrator, cash offices, WC, first-aid post, waiting hall, restaurant, police office, operator, waiting hall with conveniences, buffet. On the 1st floor there are chief of railway station, department of group bookings, ATM, currency exchange, military hall, room for children, police office for children. On the 3d floor there are recreation rooms.

In 2011 not far from the station the “gates” of Perm (scandalous art object made of logs which form the huge 3D letter “П”. The distance from Moscow is 1440 km.

Main directions

The railway serves three directions: western, eastern and Perm Krai.

  • The western direction leads to Moscow. The main stations are Mendeleevo, Vereshagino, Balezino. Everyday 26 trains go in this direction.
  • The eastern direction leads to Yekaterinburg. The distance between Perm and Yekaterinburg is 381 km. It takes about 5 hours 47 minutes to get to Yekaterinburg from Perm II. The main stations are Kungur, Kukushtan.
  • Perm Krai direction. The building of the Perm Krai direction was connected with development of mining industry in the Urals. The main stations are Kizel, Lysva, Chusovskaya.
