My thoughts about the "White Silence" story by Jack London

I’ve read a story by Jack London called “White Silence”. The story (like many other stories by this author) is about people that lived on the North in the time of the Golden fever and also about animals. The Northern lands of any country are always full of perils. On Klondike people risked their lives for gold. Although every of them dreamed of finding big golden nuggets and becoming reach, many people there died of cold or hunger.

I like books about prospectors of gold. They are romantic. London’s stories are romantic too. But there is much of true life in them. They are deeply realistic. They have charming descriptions of the Northern Nature, snowy deserts. They are full of dramatic scenes. In struggle with forces of the Nature heroes of London’s stories show fearlessness, great power of will and spirit.

In “White Silence” the author very realistically describes behavior of animals and relations between animals and people. Dogs in stories of Jack London are like human beings. They have their own characters, thoughts and fears. But this story contains a warning for people. It tells that a human shouldn’t relax among animals and when he is “one on one” with the Nature. A dog can be like a wild beast when it is hungry even though the dog is tame. Dangers wait everywhere and an absurd accident can take human’s life. But in the end the strongest people overcome all difficulties and win “White Silence”.
