Komsomolsk-on-Amure is a city of the Far East, which situated on the left bank of Amur river. Population: 263,336 (2011). It's third city according population in the Far East. There are two districts in the Komsomolsk-on-Amure. They are Central and Leninsky.

History: The government of USSR decided to build economic and cultural part in The Far East. In the 1931 year they decided to build ship-building factory. In the 1932 the village Permskoye was situated on the left bank of Amure. The city was built by volunteer labour from the Communist youth organization Komsomol, political criminal.

Climate: Komsomolsk and is situated over 30 kilometers along the left bank of the Amur River. The river at this point is up to 2.5-kilometer (1.6 mi) wide. There is monsoon and continental climate. Temperatures in the area of the city can range up to +50 °C (90.0 °F) over the course of the year, with a daily average of −29 °C (−20 °F) in January, compared to +26 °C (79 °F) in July.

Komsomolsk-is an industrial city. Most developed are the following industries: machine building and metal-working (aircraft- and ship-building, power engineering, and various transportation equipment), ferrous metallurgy, oil-processing, light industry, forest, food processing. But also it is a cultural center. You can visit:

  • The Metamoforza Gallery of Modern Art. This one has been business since 2001 and it’s basically a small independent gallery that has about 20 changing exhibitions per year covering everything from graphic design, folk and traditional art to things all together more experimental.
  • The museum of Fine Arts. Upstairs there’s a nice collection of local art, ritual sculptures, clothing, utensils and ornaments made by Amur nomads that used to occupy the land centuries ago. the local history museum
  • The local history museum.There you will find are sections that cover both the area's ancient history with a archaeological and ethnographic collection, as well as the more recent history relating to the construction of the modern city by the Komsomol and BAM builders.

But if you prefer adventures, you can try mountain skiing, rafting, walking and equestrian tours and fishing.
