Far East State Museum after N.I. Grodekov

Far East State Museum after Grodekov was founded on the initiative of Priamursky Branch of the Russian Geographic Society in April 19,1894.Since 1902 the museum bears the name of N.I. Grodekov (1843-1913)- the Governor General of Priamursky Krai (1898-1902), the first chairman of Priamursky department of Geographic Society, the honorable citizen of Khabarovsk. The museum and library were opened due to his knowledge, active life position and his personal participation. By the beginning of 20-th century the museum became the leader in Priamursky Krai. Its were exhibited in Novgorod, Kazan, Chicago and Paris. V.K. Arseniev an outstanding traveler, scientist and writer, prominent museum worker headed the museum for more than 10 years(1910-1918 and 19241925). It was during that time when the museum turned into a large scientific center in the Russian Far East. In 2000 Far East State Museum after Grodecov received the state accreditation as scientific institution of culture in the Ministry of Science and Technologies of the Russian Federation and won the nomination the «Museum of Year 2000». The museum is a member of the Russian Committee of the «International Museum Council» and a member of the presidium of the Museum Union of Russia
