Chapter 3. Part Two. Story 2
Our local inn, The Red Lion', is a very old building. The ancient brick walls are covered with plaster and supported by heavy wooden beams. All the windows are made up of small squares of glass held together by thin strips of lead. The owner is a cheerful fellow who loves collecting strange ornaments and his inn is almost like a museum inside. Hanging on the walls there are guns, swords, bows, arrows, and numerous weapons of various types.
Recently there has been a new addition. The inn-keeper bought a very curious object from one of his customers: a Victorian musical instrument. It can best be described as a large music-box. This piece of furniture is over six feet tall and there is a small window at the top through which can be seen a number of wheels with small metal teeth. As soon as the instrument is wound up by means of a handle at the side, the wheels go round and play three charming little tunes. As the bell-like tunes are very faint, you have to listen carefully to hear them. But what a pleasant change it is from the noisy music that can be heard in so many inns nowadays! The old-fashioned music-box has caused a lot of excitement in our village and has already attracted a large number of visitors.
