The memorial of the dog-hero in Perm
The dog’s monument is situated in Sverdlov park (Motovilikhinsky District). There are several versions of the appearing such unusual sculpture. The first version says that the black Newfoundland saved his owner, when he was sinking in the local pond. The Tragedy took place on the bank of the Motovilikhinsky pond. Janis was caught a heart attack, when he was walking with his dog there. The “faithful friend” came to help his owner. According to another version, this brave dog saved a drowning child. In fact the dog’s name was Raymond.
Its owner - Markodse – was the creator of the first Kennel Club in Perm. Janis's wife was the founder of the monument. By her order in 1995 the monument was erected in memory of her husband – well-known dog breeder. Many citizens don’t pay much attention to the small monument of the dog. But if you know the black Newfoundland’s history and his heroic act, you will feel the sense of proud for our “little brothers”. Most likely the monument creators ultimately wanted to convey to people the idea that it is necessary to be kind to animals, take care of them. Animals help us in difficult situations and play a big role in our life. And passing by, everyone can think about their treatment of animals.
